Trapped

There are many times in life when we feel as though we're trapped. Something has walled us into a circumstance in life from which we're unable to break free. In our new house, as large, open and nice as it may be, I felt trapped - in the bathroom, to be specific. It was a quiet morning as the birds chirped outside in their glorious chorus, and I settled in for a brief "respite." Out in the kitchen I heard our Boston Terrier romping around while tossing her red rubber Kong toy. Thud, thud, thud went the toy. Finishing up my business, I attempted to open the door to exit into the hallway. The door to this small bathroom opens out into the hall. It would not open beyond a crack before I heard the sound of rubber on the linoleum. I pushed on the door, and it still would not open. Kong, and our dog had trapped me in the bathroom. I called to the dog and told her to "get Kong." Usually she'll obey. She's an intelligent canine who can distinguish one toy from another by name. However, she didn't want to get Kong this morning. She preferred to leave me stuck in the bathroom. Finally, I started yelling. Thankfully, husband was upstairs doing some work. "Husband," I yelled. "HUSBAND!!! I'm stuck in the bathroom."

I laughed. Sometimes the silliest things just make me laugh. This event just seemed too funny to me. I laughed almost as much as when I was explaining to my husband about a person at work wearing thin leather suspenders with the X part about an inch below the collar on his back.

Life is good when I'm at home. At work, not so much. . Good people can make a bad job easy. That's all I'll say.

As far as running goes, I've been trying to get a decent weekly mileage somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 miles. I've been slowly increasing the length of my long runs (up to 13 now). I'm not following a schedule and pretty much just run how I feel, which is great. I'm planning for the pilgrimage to Asheville, North Carolina on May 6 to do the Sunset Stampede. This year I'll be smart and pass on the curly fries (which caused me great distress and pain in last year's Stampede). Also, I'm now committed to a fall marathon having signed up for the OBX Marathon along the Outer Banks of North Carolina (www.obxmarathon.com).
